Health Tip : Balance Test

This is an interesting balance test you can try. What you need to do is close your eyes then lift one foot (left foot if you’re right-handed, right foot if you’re left-handed) about 6 inches off the floor, bending your knee at a 45-degree angle. Then time how long you can stay upright without teetering or opening your eyes. Then check your results against the balance chart.
The longer you can stand, the younger your physical body is.
The full details are available here : http://www.sharecare.com/health/fitness-exercise/article/improve-your-balance

*Disclaimer : If you have knee problems, kindly consult your doctor before proceeding. Please also make sure you are not standing on any hard surface as you may injure yourself if you fall.

Here is an exercise that you can do to improve your balance and stability.

Further balance exercises are available here :

*Disclaimer : Consult your doctor before beginning an exercise program for the first time, or if you have a medical condition that affects your ability to exercise safely.

Some Chinese Traditional Medicine Practitioners claim that this balance exercise can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's because when the eyes are closed, the brain is used to balance the body. The exercise can also help to reduce hypertension and improve concentration.

Here is an explanation and sample of this Balance Test in Chinese.

The Deadly Disease Most Women Ignore | Yahoo! Health

Rosie O’Donnell says it’s a “miracle” that she survived, after ignoring heart-attack warning signs because she didn’t recognize her danger. When the former talk-show host, 50, developed soreness and aching in her chest and arms after helping “an enormous woman” out of a car, she chalked it up to muscle strain.

When the ache persisted—and she became nauseated with clammy skin—O’Donnell was worried enough to Google women’s heart attack symptoms. “I had many of them, but really? –I thought – naaa,” she wrote in her blog. Like 50 percent of women who have heart attacks, she didn’t call 911. Instead, she took an aspirin, then waited until the next day to get help for what turned out to be a 99 percent blockage in her LAD coronary artery, a type of heart attack called the “widow-maker.”

theSundaily (Health): Malaysians snacking all the way to obesity

IN A country that takes great pride in its various cuisines, the art of eating has always been an imperative part of the “Malaysian experience” and snacking, a national pastime.
Local nutritionist Shang Jeen said our unhealthy eating habits are also a prime reason why some 70,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year in Malaysia.
“We’ve lost the ability to regulate our caloric intake based on our internal hunger cues, and we tend to respond to our emotional and environmental cues which result in heavy snacking,” said Shang in an interview with theSun recently.

theSundaily (Health): The power of amino acids

SOME 40,000 different proteins – which include blood cells, enzymes and some hormones – are found in the human body, but they are all made from just 20 amino acids.
The roles played by amino acids are so crucial to our health that a separate branch of nutritional therapy known as “amino therapy” is being developed using components of protein to treat or reverse chronic health disorders.
Soy isolate, egg white, fish, lean meat, and livestock are some of the food that contain the complete range of the amino acids required by our body.

theSundaily (Health): Pain in the belly

MANY of us do have the occasional stomach ache. But if it occurs regularly, it is best to see a doctor to find out if it is related to something more serious than indigestion, food poisoning or heartburn. The persistent pain could be due to stomach cancer.
According to Dr Ramesh Gurunathan, a consultant general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon at Sunway Medical Centre, stomach cancer is the seventh most common cancer in Malaysia among males, and 10th among females.

theSundaily (Health): More than just a pinch of salt

GENERALLY, food in its natural state tends to be low in sodium. Most of our excess sodium comes from consuming processed or cooked foods. Salted meat, eggs and vegetables, miso, and most cheese are particularly high in salt.
While its chloride component is believed to be harmless, daily sodium intake exceeding four grams can cause numerous health problems since salt and MSG are such common food flavourings. Among these salt-related health problems are: ..........

theSundaily (Health): Circulating good health

MANY chronic health disorders have been linked to poor blood circulation. Oxygen and nutrients carried in the blood are fed to every living cell to ensure its continued survival and renewal. An impaired blood flow will seriously jeopardise the functions of all our vital organs. Natural medicine regards good blood flow (also called "chi" or "life force") as a source of our optimum health.
